Ian D. Shafer, MA, LPC

(he/him)

Ian D. Shafer, MA, LPC is the owner of Peace of Mind CCS and a fully Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Family Life & Human Sexuality, and his Master of Arts degree in Counseling, both at Central Michigan University.

Ian describes his approach to counseling as being “a flashlight in a dark place.” He believes that clients have the strength and answers they need within, and that the goal of services is to find those skills, build what's missing, and adapt where necessary to find a way back to peace. To this end, Ian tends toward a therapeutic model that incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Humanistic/Person-Centered (Rogerian) Therapy, Gestalt confrontation techniques, and strengths-based motivational therapy.

Ian is versed in working with clients with a variety of concerns, including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, adjustment, grief and loss, stress, coping, relationships, sexuality, gender/identity, transition, and cultural issues. He has worked with a diverse group of clients over the course of his professional career, and currently focuses on work with clients ranging from adolescence to adulthood. Ian provides treatment for individuals, couples, and families, but specializes with individuals aged 14 and older.

In addition to counseling, Ian is also credentialed as a clinical supervisor for Limited License Professional Counselors (LLPCs) in Michigan, and has been an Honorary Instructor with Walden University.

Furthermore, it can provide the insight to become more resilient towards navigating through life’s challenges. Cat believes that the tools for congruency lie within each of us, and it is up to the client to identify what truly empowers them to be successful in their own life.

(she/they)

Erin Schaeffer, MS, LLC, is a Limited License Professional Counselor working under the supervision of Ian Shafer, MA, LPC, at Peace of Mind CCS. They completed their Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Capella University (Online) in 2024, and their Bachelor's of Applied Arts in Entrepreneurship at Central Michigan University (Mount Pleasant, MI) in 2010. Erin has a wide range of experiences and is a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Erin believes that counseling is a collaborative process where clients are able to explore within a safe, affirmative, and compassionate space. By centering on the client's voice and experience, healing is supported with self-empowerment and compassion. Erin also recognizes that there are connections between the mind and body which can allow for alternative methods of healing to be explored so the best fit can be found for each individual.

Erin's current clinical interests include concerns related to sex, sexuality, and gender identity as well as life phase adjustments and relational issues. While interested in learning many psychological techniques, she maintains a framework focused around existential theory and strengths-based practices.
